Installation / configuration Chromecast dongle with Windows 10 PC.

I want to use a Chromecast device for casting from windows pc's. I know this works ok, but first de ChromeCast needs to be configurated with an app that is not available for windows.. For this configuration i have the goggle home app installed on my pc in the BlueStacks emulator. The problem is that the configuration uses Bluetooth and BlueSacks cannot use Bluetooth.

Is there any way to configure ChromeCast without an android or apple device?

The Chromecast ultra has a wired network connection is it possible to use this to configure?
Or maybe the configuration is not necessary because no network is required?

All hints are welcome

Unfortunately, Google does not support the use of emulators.  Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

There is no other option for configuring using a PC.  You have to use Home on a compatible phone or tablet.

And, yes, a network is absolutely required to run a Chromecast device.

Ok, this I understand.
But the Ultra has a wirded internet connection and i can connect that to my home network so the device will be in the same network. Do still need to configure the Chrome cast-Ultra, since there is no other thing exept the WiFi to configure that i know of. So do i need to configure anything when i use wired connection in stead of WiFi as the Ultra can do.
If there still is any configuration needed can i do the configuration over the wired connection?
I have a device that runs the Home App and has Wifi and wired internet but no BlueTooth.
I use this for my NestMini and that works.

Hey there hkuser,

I would encourage you to check out this article on how to set up that Chromecast Ultra with Ethernet. If you run into any issues setting up the device, feel free to let us know.

Hope that helps you out!

Best regards,

Jeran

Ok. Thank you. In this article the Ultra is connected over wired internet for streaming.
In my case the wired connection is only used for configuration. The streaming will then be done over WiFi.

If I understand this article correct, I can connect the Utra to video equipment using HDMI  and to my home network using Wired (utp) internet.
Than connect the divice running Google Home with wired (UTP) internet. (thes device has no Bluetooth).
Then open the Google Home App and configure the Chrome-Cast-Ultra fore WiFi streaming.

After the configuration is done the Ulra and the Goggle Home device can be disconnected from the wired internet and the casting can be done over my WiFi home network to the ultra.

Best regards
Hans Kanbier.

Hey there hkuser,

Of course! You can give that a try, but I am actually not sure if it will work or not. According to this article, the Chromecast can only remember one Wi-Fi network at a time. Of course, that doesn't account for the Ethernet. I would imagine if you set up the device using Ethernet, the Chromecast would prefer you to stick with Ethernet, but you may be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network while still being hard-wired through Ethernet.

Go ahead and give your set-up a try, and let me know if it works for you!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Thanks for your reaction. The problem is that I have not yetbought the ultra. First I want to know if the complete confuguration can be done over wired internet (UTP).
My device with the home app does not have bluetooth and the other Chrome cast dongles cannot be configured via WiFi and do not have UTP.
So my hope is on the Ultra.

I want to cast and configure over WiFi ore UTP.
I was hoping somone has experiance with this.

Best regards Hans

Hey there hkuser,

To answer your question, yes! As long as you have an Ethernet adapter for your Chromecast Ultra, then here is how to set it up with Ethernet. Now, when the Chromecast is connected via Ethernet, you are still able to cast from another device that is connected to the Wi-Fi, as long as it's the same network.

Let me know if you had any more questions about that!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Ok. this I understand.

As I see now the configuration of the Ultra can only be done over bluetooth ore over utp but not over WiFi
But is it allso possible to configure the Ultra over wired utp internet and than disconnect the utp and use the Ultra using only WiFi?

The problem is that my tablet on witch Google Home runs does not have Bluetooth and I want to use the ultra with WiFi.

Best regards Hans
