Installing apps

Hi all!! So I’ve bought my chromecast 3rd gen and now I’m stuck at the wallpaper screen. How do I get to the play store to install some apps to my chromecast? From the help topics I get the impression that I only can cast stuff from my phone, which I find quite hard to believe. I need to install two apps - megogo for watching the TV and VPN to enable megogo. Thanks for any help!

You can't install app on a 3rd Generation Chromecast device (the round one that does NOT come with a remote).

Only the Chromecast with Google TV (the oblong one that DOES come with a remote) can install apps.

For the 3rd Gen, you install the apps on your phone or tablet and then cast from your phone or tablet to your Chromecast.  Read this for more information:

And, be aware, Google does NOT support the use of VPNs with Chromecast devices.  They may or may not work.  We can't help you with them here if they do not.  Even the CwGTV that can install apps can't install VPN apps.
