Laptop will not cast to chromecast but everything else will

Johner10

Hello,

Only my laptop CAN'T cast to my Chromecast.  My phone and other people's laptops can.  I also went to someone else's house and connected to their Wifi, and everything but my laptop can cast.

I have tried downloading Google Canary, but it could not cast either.  I have made sure I am on the same wifi network as my chromecast.  I have also turned off my firewall and antivirus software, but nothing works.

Does anyone know of any solutions?

Hiya Johner10,

No problem! If you're using Wi-Fi, try this instead:

  1. Navigate to Start.
  2. In the Start menu, click on Settings.
  3. Click Network and Internet.
  4. Click on Wi-Fi.
5. On the right side, under Related settings, select Change advanced sharing options.
  6. Under the Private tab, go ahead and Turn on network discovery.
  7. Finally, Save Changes.

Let me know if that works out instead, I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there Johner10,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What OS is your laptop running?
  • Are you using any kind of VPN or proxy?
  • Are you connecting to the same network band as the Chromecast? (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz)

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hey there Johner10,

No problem at all! In this case, Windows 10 has privacy settings that must be set in order to communicate with Chromecast devices. Here are the steps to get that set up:

If you are using a Wi-Fi connection:

  1. Navigate to Start.
  2. In the Start menu, click on Settings.
  3. Click Network and Internet.
  4. Under the section labeled Change your network settings, select Sharing Options.
  5. From the network profiles listed, select Private.
  6. Enable the option Turn on Network Discovery.
  7. At the bottom of the screen, click Save located.
  8. Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7, but this time, from the network profiles listed, select Guest or Public.

If you are using an Ethernet connection:

  1. Go to Start, then select Settings and then Network & Internet and then Ethernet.
  2. Click the network the customer wants to change.
  3. Click Make this PC discoverable.

Let me know if this helps out, I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi there,

In my google HOME, I can cast my screen. But in my Laptop, the device is not even showing. Both my laptop and chromecast are in same wifi. I followed the steps provided and also my network sharing is turned ON.
