Multiple accounts not working on YouTube on Google TV (Sony Bravia XR) after recent update

Multiple accounts not working on YouTube on Google TV after recent update on my Sony Bravia XR-65A80J TV (updated Jul 25th). Used to be able to switch accounts in YouTube app. My wife's account shows up as a "Other Account" in the Google TV "Managed Accounts" settings and only thing I can do is remove the account. Please help as soon as possible. NOTE: I have 3 other of the latest Chromecast with Google TV dongles and they work just fine.

Hey there bipoman,

You may have already seen this reply on the other thread regarding this same issue, but here it is again:

I went ahead and talked with a higher tier of support, and it looks like this is a bug that was filed, and it is currently being looked at by the engineering team. If you have the chance, would you make sure that your Chromecast and YouTube are both up-to-date, then follow the steps you normally would to swap your account, then finally submit feedback via Google TV using the keywords "CCT3 Can't switch account to YouTube"? This would help our engineering team track down the issue faster.

Let me know if you had any more questions or concerns, we appreciate it!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there bipoman,

Welcome to the Chromecast Community Forum! This is an interesting issue, since it is only affecting one of your Chromecast devices and not the others. I'd be happy to help you look into this. Go ahead and give these steps a try:

  • Make sure that your Chromecast with Google TV is up-to-date on its firmware.
  • Clear out the cached app data on the YouTube app.
  • See if you can swap the account from Google TV instead of YouTube.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Jeran,

Thanks for your reply. Here are the steps I have tried on my Sony Bravia XR65A80J with Chromecast with Google TV built in:

  1. Verified TV is up to date on firmware
  2. Cleared out the cached app data on YouTube app
  3. UNABLE to switch accounts from Google TV; only can add or remove
  4. I have done a factory reset on the TV, updated YouTube app and get same results
  5. NOTE: YouTube TV app switches accounts fine from the YouTube TV app itself but YouTube is a NO-GO

It has to do with the built-in Chromecast with Google TV software or the YouTube for Android TV app.
I have successfully taken one of my Chromecast with Google TV dongle's and attach it to my Sony Bravia XR65A80J and switch to the proper HDMI input and everything works fine. My wife can switch to her account via the YouTube app.

Kind Regards,

Hey there bipoman,

Thank you for getting back to me on this! Just to double-check, what is the firmware version of Android TV for a Chromecast with Google TV dongle, vs the Chromecast built-in? I'm wondering if the Chromecast built-in is using a slightly older version of Google TV compared to the Chromecast with Google TV.

Jeran,

My Sony Bravia XR65A80J worked before July 25th when it received a Sony firmware update to the latest version which is PKG6.5942.0698NAA.

Attached are screenshots of my Chromecast with Google TV built-in and my Chromecast with Google TV dongle under the "About"

Sony Bravia with Google TV Built-In:

Chromecast with Google TV Dongle:

The only differences I see is the Model and Kernel Version.
Any help on this would be most appreciated, cause my current workaround of using the dongle on a expensive TV that has Google TV Built-In is mind blowing plus difficult to use with the remotes.

Kind Regards,
