Mute and power buttons do not work on chromecast remote with Sony STR-DN1080 receiver.
Volume and input can be programmed.
Reset and re-paired no help.
This is a popular model of Sony, so you should be able to program it.

Hi Carl1949,
Thanks for reaching out. If you're done resetting your Chromecast Voice Remote, please also perform a reset on your Chromecast dongle and test. Using a different receiver or sound bar if possible might also help.
Note: If it works with a different device, you may reach out to your receiver's or sound bar's manufacturer for additional help. There might be some setting that needs to be configured.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Nope. Reset the remote, re-paired the remote, attempted to reset the remote with the Sony. Still same problem. Switched my STR-DN1080 with another Sony receiver STR-ZA2000ES same problem. Both of these are high end receivers. I worked in a Stereo/TV repair shop for 5 years so I believe I understand it is not a receiver problem. The Chromecast device doesn't have the correct codes to talk to Sony receivers. (Power and mute). I would think Google's software engineers could correct this easily if they knew they had this problem. Since it doesn't work with either receiver I think someone should pass this information to them

Hi Carl1949,
Sorry for the late response. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts about this.
Please take note that the remote won’t be able to control the volume and power on some device models. You can see the info here. Also, I'd suggest you send feedback about this via Google TV. Here's how. Every bit of feedback and logs on the subject helps a ton.
Thanks,
Jennifer
