I recently moved my Chromecast from one Sony Bravia TV to another and it will not complete a set up!

I have factory reset multiple times

I have tried on 3 different Wifi signals (including the device's own one)

I have tried on 2 different Android phones

I have removed, re-installed and re-started Google Home multiple times

The issue remains the same:

The chromecast is blinking white and displays on the TV screen, prompting me to download the Google Home app (and the 4-digit code appears in the bottom RH corner of the screen.

The phone can 'see' the Chromecast because an icon appears at the top of the phone with a message prompting me to open Google Home to complete the set up.

I can open Google Home and then click on through set up options and Google Home 'looks' for the device and then asks what am I attempting to set up?

I click on Chromecast and off it goes looking again only to ask again what am I trying to set up.

I click on Chromecast and off it goes looking again only to ask again what am I trying to set up.

And that's it.

That's the loop!

The Chromecast obviously has power and is expecting to be set up.

The phone can obviously detect the Chromecast.

The issue seems to be a glitch with the Google Home app process

Any ideas?.... Anyone??

Thanks.

Matt.

Hey there Matt,

Do you still have the other TV to see if the issue persists when you try to set the Chromecast up on it? It's strange that it only started happening on the new television! Aside from that, check these points as well:

Are your devices' firmware/software up-to-date?
Are you connected to same network band? (Either 2.4GHz or 5GHz)
What type of Android devices were you using? What Android version were they running?

For example, Samsung devices running Android 7 and above have a setting called Adaptive Wi-Fi that needs to be disabled to set up the Chromecast properly. Huawei devices have a setting called Wi-Fi+ that also need to be disabled.

I look forward to your response, and I appreciate your patience!

Thank you,

Hey there Jenbronz,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that set-up issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What type of Chromecast do you have?
  • What device are you using to set-up the Chromecast?
  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
