Used my Chromecast whilst away on holiday, connected to my motels Wifi.
Trying to now connect it to my home wifi - My phone (why do I need a phone for a Chromecast when I only ever want to use my PC) - sees the Chromecast and confirms the code on my TV, then asks for me to select the wifi - which I do and then the wifi credentials. It then immediately pops up a message box "Could not communicate with your Chromecast". Leaving an OK button as the only response.
If I click OK it returns the Home APP to the Home page (with the option to Set up Chromecast).
If I do nothing (leave the message box on my phone screen) after a while on my TV the Chromecast shows that its trying to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi.
Shortly afterwards it returns to the 'link key confirmation screen' with the message:
Can't connect to Wi-Fi. Make sure that your network name and password are correct (which they are).
At no point do I have the opportunity to do a reset, which the instructions at chromecast.com/help refer to.
These instructions (as a last resort select factory reset) are not available when Google Home APP isn't connected to the Chromecast in the first place.

You have to use a phone or a tablet because you have to use the Google Home app to manage devices now. Google stopped supporting using a PC to do that years ago.
Chromecast devices only remember one WiFi at once (they aren't like your phone that keeps a list of old networks).
I would suggest doing a reset on your Chromecast to erase the hotel WiFi. That should put it back in a state where it connects better.

That way, it will go through the full setup procedure and stop trying to find the hotel WiFi
