So im using what seems to be 2nd gen and ever since i moved it just wont connect to my wifi or my google home app. I have an older (same gen) that I had no issues switching over to and just bought a newer which had no issues as well. Ive hard rebooted it several times even tried connecting to it via bluetooth and its provided wifi...nothings happening, any suggestions🤷🏾‍♂️

Hey there snowgoblin,

I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that connection issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I know the Chromecast can be a bit finicky when connecting to a new network. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • Are you connected to a 2.4GHz network or a 5GHz network?
  • What color is the LED light on the Chromecast?
  • Have you already factory reset the Chromecast?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

hey jeran, so I have factory reset the chromecast several times over now, my wifi is running at 5ghz, the light goes through its proper cycling until it is time for Google home to find it and link to my wifi. I have 2 other chromecasts that are the same Gen, one that I just purchased and had no issues with and the other being my original that I have moved several times with no issues. as for troubleshooting, I have gone through too many forums, videos and phonecalls to count between hands and feet. I've simply settled upon not using it and just tethering my phone through an hdmi cord. Also thank you for reaching out to assist me with this as I am generally able to figure these things out, this just has my mind blown.

Hey there snowgoblin,

I'm sorry to hear that the Chromecast has been giving you so many issues! Luckily, you've been able to use a workaround for now. One thing I would recommend you check if you do look at re-setting the Chromecast back up in the future is to check the channel range on your 5GHz network. There was a recent firmware update that made the older models of Chromecast not connect if the channel range is too high, so you may need to set it to a lower range, such as 36-48.

Although, if you're happy with the workaround for now, no need to fix what isn't broken in that aspect! In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns I can address?

Best regards,

Jeran
