I have:
Chromecast gen 2
Sharp TV model LC-46D64U
Sonos Beam gen 2 connected to TV using optical port (no HDMI ARC port on the TV)
Issue:
When I cast to my TV I get no audio on the soundbar.
I can get audio using the TV's built-in speakers. I can get audio on the soundbar from regular tv (coming through an HDMI port)
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hey there Pedance,
I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that audio issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as movies aren't much fun without actual sound. I'm sorry to say, but the Chromecast won't be able to work with this current setup. Usually, you'd want to connect the Chromecast to the soundbar, then the soundbar to the TV via HDMI ARC.
I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,
Thanks for responding. I have not fixed the issue. I'm not sure I understand the setup you've described. The Chromecast is currently plugged into my TV using an HDMI port. How can I connect it directly to the soundbar? The Sonos Beam only has one HDMI port which is used to connect it to the TV.
Thanks for any support you can provide. Sound will be a great improvement to my casting experience. Lol. Warmly, Dan

Hey there Pedanza,
Users typically have success by plugging their Chromecast into an HDMI port on the soundbar and then connecting the soundbar's HDMI Out to the TV's HDMI-ARC. You mentioned that your Sonos Beam only has one HDMI port, and in that case, the Chromecast won't work properly with the soundbar. You'd have to, in this case, connect the Chromecast directly into the TV's HDMI and use the TV speakers.
Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,
How can this be? How is it that a Sonos soundbar can play sound from my TV but not when I'm using Chromecast?
Also, I would have thought Chromecast and Sonos are popular enough for this to be a common concern. Am I wrong? Is there a foreseeable fix to this issue?
Appreciate any insight you have.
Warmly
Dan

Hey there Pedanza,
Google designed the Chromecast to be plugged in directly to the TV's HDMI port. If the Chromecast is connected to a TV and a separate AVR, sound bar, or external speakers, the audio should come out of the TV unless they have an output path from the TV to the AVR, sound bar, or external speakers (Example: a digital optical out cable or HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) enabled). In this scenario, if the audio comes out of the TV but not the AVR, then the issue is with the TV or AVR connection and not with Chromecast. However, plugging the Chromecast into the soundbar's HDMI with the method I've described is technically a work-around.
I hope that makes sense; let me know if you have any more questions.
Thank you,
Jeran

Hi Jeran
Thank you for this great information. I can't say I truly understand how the output path can work for the audio from one source (TV network) but not from another (Chromecast). I hear you that it's not a Chromecast issue. One final question. Does this setup (casting with Chromecast plugged into TV'S HDMI with audio going to Sonos soundabr using either optical or HDMI-ARC) work on some devices? If I find the right TV do I have a hope of casting with sound?
Thanks again for all your help.

Hey there Pedanza,
I'm sorry to say, but that set-up would only work if you were to use a Chromecast with Google TV, and even then, you'd have to connect the soundbar to the Chromecast via Bluetooth. I've seen some cases where people were able to get different connections and set-ups to work, but I'd only recommend doing things the way Google intended.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Best regards,
Jeran
