Non-standard power supply error

userslim

Hello,

I have checked around for suggestions related to the non-standard power supply error. I have completed a factory reset and confirmed that I am using the original power supply. It worked fine for over 2 years and now is giving me the error.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Mine is doing that as well and I haven’t even had it 2 months.

The Chromecast 1, 2, 3rd generation and the Chromecast Ultra especially, needs the original power supply. After two years, there is always a chance something went faulty on it -- these things happen with electronics.

I recommend immediately contacting Google Store support and ask them to replace it.

@GHid you should immediately contact them for a replacement as two months is under warranty.

Can @userslim or GHid tell us what model Chromecast you're using?

I am using the Chromecast Ultra

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, @Arthur_Gray.

@userslim and @GHid, thanks for posting. A few things: Is the Chromecast plugged in snugly and directly to the power outlet? Was there a recent power outage? How is the Chromecast receiving power? Are you both using a power cable or USB port? Have you tried powering the Chromecast using both the power outlet and USB port?

Try these steps and let me know the result.

  1. Plug in the Chromecast directly from the power outlet if it's plugged in via USB.
  2. Try a different power outlet if it’s plugged into the power outlet.
  3. Check if the power adapter isn't damaged.
  4. If you are still getting this message using the original power cord, try using a different power cord,
    1. USB-to-micro-USB cable and adapter for Chromecast (1st - 3rd Gen)
    2. USB-C power cable for Chromecast with Google TV.

Regards,

Juni

None of these suggestions works. If this seems to be a common problem, why is Google not offering the ability to replace the cord?

Hey there everyone,

I apologize for the late response on this thread, and thank you all for your patience. I'm just checking up on this thread; was there anyone still experiencing this issue with your Chromecast? If so, let us know, and we can provide the form necessary to have Chromecast Support reach out to you.

Best regards,
