I just bought a new Chromecast with Google TV. I want to be able to use my Pixel 5 Android phone to control it (like the physical remote). It doesn't let me do that, but instead in the Google Home App it says "Full remote unavailable. Make sure your streaming device has the latest software." And then points me to a help article about the requirements for phone control. That article says, among other things, that I need Android TV Cast Service version 5.0 or later and Gboard version 11.0 or later on the Chromecast. Upon inspection, my Chromecast says it's Android TV Remote Service version is 4.6.345 and it's Gboard version is 10.0.05. So they appear to be too old of versions for this, however my Chromecast says it's system is up to date.
It's worth noting that I have an Nvidia Shield on the same home network that allows me to control it with the phone remote just fine. So this very much appears to be an issue with this Chromecast, particularly the versions of those two system apps.
Being able to do this with my phone is one of the leading reasons I bought the device. Can anyone help me get this resolved?

FYI, after a few hours, the apps I listed above increased their version and now the phone remote control function works fine. I think it just took a little while for the play store to update those system apps in the background. Problem resolved.

You can control the Chromecast device with the Google Home application built-in software remote.

That is my intent/desire, but the Google Home app is giving me that error message and not letting me do it, presumably because those apps on my Chromecast are not at a high enough version. That's what I'm going someone out there can help me resolve.

You probably have auto updates turned on.
Personally, I never turn on auto updates, because I developed the habit of manually checking for available updates, on a day to day basis, and I want to read what's new before I decide to install an update.

Hey there!
It looks like JRGariano was able to resolve the issue, so I'm locking the thread. As always, feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.
Thank you for your help, djtetei!
