Problems updating my 1st Gen Chromecast

I have just set up my Google Chromecast 1st gen device on our guest room TV after it not having been used for a few years.  The set-up went well but it then had to perform an update however it just gets stuck on 0%.  I have performed a factory reset on the device but this has had no effect.  I am using it with an iPhone.

What brand and model of phone or tablet are you using? To test, you could try setting up your phone or tablet as a Wifi hotspot. Note you will need 2 devices to set this up.

  1. Turn on the Wifi hotspot feature on a phone or tablet. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the manufacturer's support website.
  2. Connect a second phone or tablet to that Wifi hotspot.
  3. You can then use that second phone or tablet to setup your Chromecast and connect it to the Wifi hotspot on the first phone or tablet.

I'm assuming your Wi-Fi and internet is otherwise working normally?

Chromecast updates typically takes up to 10 minutes. If the update takes much longer than expected, check the LED status to verify the device is still updating. The Chromecast should pulse red while it receives the update.

If needed, you can reboot the Chromecast to automatically restart the update. Unplug your Chromecast from the power source and then wait for one minute before you plug it back in.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.  It stays in update mode constantly, left it over a hour and it still showed 0%.  It has a flashing orange light rather than red.  Tried rebooting and a factory reset but no difference. Wi-Fi good, three bars on the fan icon.
