Protecting Google TV accounts on Chromecast 4k with PIN?

Hi,

Yesterday I received my Chromecast with Google TV (4k). I'm really impressed by the device, especially given the price, so I'm generally very happy.

There is one annoyance though. I've set up two accounts: one for myself and my partner, one for our kids. When I start the Chromecast, I can select the account, but there seems to be no way to "protect" the accounts with a PIN or something. Now my kids can just go into my account and start watching potentially inappropriate content. I'm looking for a PIN-like feature as with Netflix, Disney+ etc.

I found some protection options, but they do not suffice:

  • I can protect the settings in the adult account with a PIN.
  • I can apparently lock my children into their account, so they're not able to switch, but they can easily reboot the device and select the adult account.

I also found a thread on Reddit about this of 1.5 years old:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/phaczt/chromecast_with_google_tv_how_do_i_pin_lock_my/

What am I missing? Is this still not available?

Regards, Luuk

Right now, there is not an option for that.  That's why you can't find it.

You can tell Google what you would like by using the "Send Feedback" option:
https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6292231

Google doesn't read every post in this forum but they do read and track all the feedback they receive that way. Just so you know, they won't respond directly to feedback so don't ask them any questions.
