Remote control - TV control not working with correct manufacturer

RichTea
Community Member

Hello,

I have just purchased a Chromecast with Google TV to control my Optoma CinemaX P2 projector.

However I cannot get the Chromecast remote to control the volume and TV power.

When try to setup the remote with the Optoma profile, the best I can get the remote to do is to make the volume keys refocus the projector, and the power button to switch input.

Help? Thanks

Hey there RichTea,

I'm sorry that your Chromecast Voice Remote is having trouble controlling your projector! These issues can be tricky to fix, so I'd be happy to help you out. The first thing I would do is, if your project can use IR, is change the remote to use IR instead of HDMI-CEC. You can find out how to access those remote settings here.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have done this but after I try all of the options for my brand of project i.e. Optoma to control the sound it doesn't work and I get this message "It looks like the Google TV remote can't control the volume on this device." However it should be able to as the projector comes with a IR remote and I have heard other Optoma projector are compatible with the Google Remote. Thanks

Hey there RichTea,

I'm really sorry about the late response on this, I appreciate your patience! It's strange that the Chromecast Voice Remote won't control the volume on both HDMI-CEC and IR settings. In this case, I would double-check that both your Chromecast and Optoma are up-to-date on their firmware. Then, try changing the HDMI port that the Chromecast is plugged into. Finally, if you would like to try it, look for universal remote codes that share the same remote code as Optoma, and then set up the Chromecast Voice Remote to use that new code.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi I have ensured that the firmware is up to date on both.

I have managed to get the Chromecast remote to power the projector on and off with CEC.

But the neither CEC or IR is still unable to control the volume.

Could you explain in more detail about the universal remote codes as I don't quite understand what you mean?

Hey there RichTea,

The manufacturer gathers data about common IR code sets for common devices and provides the user with a way to set that code set. The codes you put in are just like an address, with the remote figuring out the information it needs for that code. Some remotes share the same codes as others, so you should be able to use another brand's remote code if it has the same code as yours.

I hope that makes sense; please let me know if you have any more questions.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi again, I've had a look and can't find any code that match Optoma ones.

Is there any way for you to request the team that adds remote codes thing on the Chromecast if they could possibly fix this in a future update?

Hey there RichTea,

Goodness, I'm sorry to hear that. The best way to have Google look at adding more remote support is by submitting feedback via Google TV. Just let them know which make and model of remote/TV needs support, and they will look into it. I'll go ahead and pass it up as well.

In the meantime, did you have any other questions we can address?

Best regards,

Jeran
