Remote melted itself

My remote has spontaneously combusted. It was working only intermittently, so we changed the batteries, and it then started heating up and produced a burning plastic smell. I found no options online about how to contact google for a replacement device, and am left with the option of buying a replacement at the cost of $25, when it's $40 for an entirely new Chromecast. What a rip off.
