I'd like to have HD resolution by default used in HDMI, and only have 4k resolution when playing 4k content.
i.e. if Netflix movie is 4k, TV should recognize a 4k signal; if Netflix movie is HD, TV should recognize a HD signal.
Is that possible/

Hey there jj001,
I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for your patience! Were you able to find the answer to your question? If not, I'd be happy to help you out! I think the best way to do this would be to select the quality settings in the streaming app itself. For example, you can have the Chromecast settings allow up to 4K, but on Netflix, set the quality to either HD or 4K, depending on what you prefer at the time. You could change the settings on the Chromecast to HD, but then the apps won't detect that 4K is available and won't allow it.
I hope that answers your question, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

My question was never answered. I want HD when on the menu.

Hey there jj001,
Just to clarify, you want to have the Google TV home screen to be HD, but the content from videos and apps to be 4K? At the moment, the Chromecast with Google TV will display the setting you change it to in the settings, so the home screen will be 4K if you select 4K, or HD if you select HD. There isn't currently a way to have the Google TV home screen be lower than the highest setting you select. If this is something you'd like to see in the future, feel free to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know you'd like to have a bit more customization with the video settings.
I hope that answered your questions, if not, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Correct, this is what I wanted to do. If I select a content on Netflix just available on HD (or just the main menu) I do not want CCGTV to send a 4k signal.
