Setup issues with LG Velvet

MSpratt
Community Member

Hi, has anyone with a LG Velvet been having issues setting up any and all devices on their phone. I have to use my work phone which might not be an option moving forward. Would like to figure this out before that.

I was able to set them up once then never again. It will see and successfully connect but then never complete set up saying its not connected...

Thanks for any help!!

Hey there MSpratt,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that setup issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, since I know setup issues and be hard to troubleshoot. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Does the LG Velvet have Chromecast built-in?
  • What version of the Google Home app are you using?
  • Have you already factory reset the LG Velvet?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

· About 2 Android updates ago I believe. Around the same time as I made the post.

· I'm not entirely sure, I believe it has Google assistant built in.

· I have version 2.47.78.2.

· No, I don't see how that would help though either.

· I have rebooted routers, factory reset devices, the devices play the sound to confirm connection then it fails. It also does the same thing on my ZTE tablet.

Everything is currently working, as I do have a second Android device for work. But they are starting to lock down those phones so I don't know how much longer I can use it.

No problem at all, we can double-check a few settings on that LG Velvet to make sure everything checks out.

Since you are using an Android device, you need to have Location Services turned On in order to discover your Chromecast hot-spot within the Google Home app.

Here is how to access those setttings:

  1. Open the device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Security and location.

Note: If you can't find Security and location, follow the steps for older Android versions. If they have a work profile, tap Advanced.

  3. Tap Location.
  4. Turn Use location on On.

If that still doesn't work for you, go ahead and uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app on your phone.

Let me know if that resolves the issue. If not, we can try a few more things!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app prior to your suggestion. With no luck. Sorry for the late response. I was only notified of your last message sent today.

Hey there MSpratt,

No problem at all! We can try a few more things to get that LG Velvet connected.

First, let's try to manually connect to the Chromecast's SSID. To connect to Chromecast SSID, give these steps a try:

  1. Go to the phone’s Settings.
  2. Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234).
  3. Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

If that still does not work for you, make sure the Chromecast device is within 15 to 20 feet of the setup device and the Wi-Fi router. If you have a dual-band router, make sure that you disable Access Point (AP) isolation.

Let me know if that works out for you!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there MSpratt,

I'm sorry to hear that. If you would prefer, you can contact Chromecast Support directly to see if they can dig a little deeper to figure out what's happening. You'll just need to go through the prompts, then it will give you the option to talk with them through chat, a phone call, or an option for them to give you a call back.

Let me know if they're able to help you out!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there!

We haven't heard back from MSpratt, and it's been a few days, so I'm locking the thread. As always, feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.
