Since the update to Android 12 disconnects from the ethernet.

Dick268

Since the update to Android 12 my Chromecast with Google TV disconnects from the ethernet.

When switching on, after power to it has been disconnected overnight,  it connects to the ethernet but as soon as I switch on the VPN (Nord) the connection is lost.  If Chromecast is switched on and off while power is connected, no problem.

I have tried replicating the problem with the ethernet cable unplugged, using wi-fi, and the Chromecast works OK.

The ethernet is connected via an Anker7-in-1 USB-C PD Ethernet Hub, for extra storage, which is powered by a UGreen  65W GaN Fast Charger.

No problems before the update.  Connection can be restored by unplugging and plugging in the cable which means getting out of my armchair!

I could leave the power connected overnight, that would solve the problem, but in the interests of economy I don’t want to leave things on standby when not used.  This would also solve  the problem of the apps on the hub reverting to a seemingly random order after I have moved them into a logical order.

Any ideas anyone?

The same happens to me, but I couldn't solve the problem. Any idea from someone?

Same boat for me.  Worked perfectly for a long time before updating.  Google support is absolutely horrible.

Hey there everyone,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! Was anyone able to resolve this Ethernet issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I can imagine this has been pretty frustrating. I would double-check for any more updates on the Chromecast to see if any patches have come out. If you haven't already, go ahead and restart the Chromecast device as well. Please let me know if you receive any specific error messages.

I look forward to your responses, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hey there devachan,

I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this Ethernet issue. There isn't a way to downgrade the Chromecast software or firmware, unfortunately. If you'd like, I can have someone from Chromecast Support reach out to you via e-mail if you fill out this form. They would have more tools than we would on the forum to resolve this.

Best regards,

Jeran

Pleaes post here if you find a solution.  I would fill out the form myself but I had 2 weeks of trouble getting my pixel 7 pro and so far I have yet to even get my wifi pro which I pre-ordered (in fact I tried to cancel and return so for the last 6 days it has just been trying to get a refund.  So I have zero ambition yo talk to support for another issue as the whole support situation in Google seems to be a sh*tshow.

Same problem here. My setup is a bit simpler than the original poster - I just have two Chromecasts with Google TV (4K) + OEM Ethernet Adapters. Ever since the update, ethernet connections are lost regularly on both devices. Please fix this.

@Jeran Thanks for the reply. I performed a full Factory Reset on both devices. So far so good but I wanna give it a few more days before I assume the issue is resolved.

Interesting. Can you post here after a week or two. I never thought of a factory reset but if it resolved the issue, I'll go through the reinstalling/setting everything back up

I can imagine for existing devices v12 is a huge upgrade, which could result in some issues that can be fixed by reset. I doubt this works for a brand new HD that comes with v12. It did do a small update on first startup.

Factory reset never worked for me

Seems like the issue is resolved now. I had no further issues after the factory resets. Furthermore, I updated both devices to the post v12 update. Immediately after the update, the Ethernet Connection wasn't working (again), but after cycling the power on the Ethernet Adapter, things have been working fine.

I have this also with a new Chromecast HD. I have ethernet adapter connected via usb hub (yes, with enough power). It randomly disconnects and shows "no internet connection". On wifi this does not occur, its stable. I have tried several combinations of hubs, eth adapters and power bricks. No difference. Wondering if i should return and then get the fire tv stick, that has always worked fine for me.

Hallo guys, this issue has been resolved after the latest Android TV OS build update. (STTE.220920.015.A1.9261725)

Vpn connected via ethernet is working again.

Just updated now. Fingers crossed!

I noticed no disconnects yesterday, was not aware about the update. Not sure if i have the latest update. Will check and report back.

Done some testing with Chromecast HD, with latest update. Ethernet seems stable now. Saw no "no internet connection" messages all night.

Installed the latest update five days ago, since then ethernet has remained connected. Looks like the problem has been solved.

I'm just checking up on this thread again, was this Ethernet issue still causing issues for anyone, or has it been resolved for everyone? I look forward to hearing from you.

I don't seem to be able to update to the version that is mentioned above and I still have this issue persisting on two of my devices.

Hey there Dashsutha,

What update is your Chromecast stuck on? Go ahead and check out and follow the steps listed in this article to see if it allows you to download the latest version.

The update has now been installed on my Chromecast STTE.220920.015.A1.9261725.

But the issue remains and the system cannot detect my ethernet cable. I've tried two factory resets, two Ethernet hubs.

Hello! Since I've seen a lot of complaints about the update to Android 12, is this latest security patch solving all the stability and performance issues? I am asking because I'm interested in buying a Chromecast, but I don't want to buy a device that is already outdated and has a lot of lagg. I have to choose between Chromecast 4k, and the realme stick tv or Xioami Stick TV 4k. I would rather choose the Chromecast, even if it's a little more expensive, but I don't want to face with a lot of problems, so I want to hear more about it's actual state (how is it now with the last software and firmware updates installed).

Hey there stan4695,

Thank you for filling out that form! You should have someone reach out from Chromecast Support to your e-mail, so keep an eye out for that. They are a bit behind because of the holidays, so it may take a few days.

Best regards,

Jeran

The problem is still valid.

I've just bought a 4K Chromecast. I have an ethernet hub attached to the 4K chromecast with static IP configuration. After the device restart (settings >> system >> restart) ethernet connection is lost. I need to deattach the plug from the socket for a few seconds in order to fix the issue and restore the ethernet connection.

I've tried to update the software on chromecast, but the device says that it is up to date.

I've done the factory reset twice, did not help.

Android TV OS = 12

Android TV OS security patch level = 1 July 2022

Kernel version = 4.9.269

Android TV OS build = STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754

Hello Pingwin,

Looks like you have to do an update in spite of the device saying it is up to date.

No problem with ethernet since I did the latest update in November.

This is my version,

Android TV OS = 12

Android TV OS security patch level = 1 October 2022

Kernel version = 4.9.269

#1 Tue Sep 20 02:04:58 UTC 2022

Android TV OS build = STTE.220920.015.A1.9261725

Unfortunately chromecast does not want to update the firmware.

I've done a reset to factory once again. I am connected via 2,4GHz wi-fi.

I go to system >> about >> system update and click on blue "check for update" button.

After a few seconds the message appears: "Your system is up to date" and new firmware is not being downloaded.

The following config remains:

Android TV OS = 12

Android TV OS security patch level = 1 July 2022

Kernel version = 4.9.269

Android TV OS build = STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754

Hey there pingwin,

Just to clarify, looking at this article on the current Chromecast firmware versions, the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) received its last update as of July 2022, while the Chromecast with Google TV (HD) received one in October 2022. If you don't mind, would you be able to fill out this form to have Chromecast Support reach out to you via email? They would have more tools to look into this issue; just let me know when you have done so.

Best regards,

Jeran

Thank you Jeran for your support.

I've just filled the form for the Chromecast support.

I'm quite sure that October/SW=STTE.220920.015.A1 was release for 4K chromecast, but it looks like google decided to suspend access to the update. Maybe some issues were reported?

Hello Pingwin,

I think you are right.  I have the 4K Chromecast (Model GZRNL) and I updated to STTE.220920.015.A1.9261725 at the end of November.  According to the link that Jeran gave the Chromecast 4K is still on the old firmware.  Very odd!

Regards,

**bleep**.

p.s. Is my name so offensive that it has to be bleeped out? 🤔
