Just rented a movie on play. Go to cast like I always have. No go. Notice it is playing through Google tv app which is new. Problem same on my phone and my wife's. I'm guessing I've just been segued and have to buy new Chromecast. Other apps still cast ok. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

I haven't heard anything from Google about stopping support for the Gen 1 Chromecast device.  It's odd that it is not working with the Google TV app for you.  Make sure that you've updated the app on your phone just in case there WAS a software problem.  The only thing that I know won't work on Gen 1 is Speaker Groups for playing music to multiple devices at once.

But, you've certainly gotten your money's worth out of your Gen 1.  You might consider upgrading simply because the newer devices have much better WiFi radios in them and the new Chromecast with Google TV version can be run without using your phone or tablet because it has the Android TV interface and a remote.  It's nice to rent a movie and then just use the remote to play it rather than have to keep my phone handy.

But, you should not have to upgrade just to use the Google TV ap.
