Toshiba speakers drop out of groups

I have two Toshiba speakers TY-GC1000s and 3 chromecast audio devices, and a little while ago I noticed that the Toshibas have started to drop in and out of the audio group.  My wifi footprint has not changed recently, and I have tried moving them into the same room as my router, but the behavior remains.

The Toshiba speakers perform perfectly when they are not in a group containing the standard chromecasts (in a group with themselves, or individually), so I expect that this is not an issue with them, but is some issue with the cast groups membership being maintained.  I've tried removing all the group members and adding them back as well as creating new groups.

Any suggestions?

I hope I'm wrong about this, but I think you're out of luck -  a lot of us have had problems recently with our Groups containing third party speakers (my thread on this - https://tinyurl.com/yckrt9re) and if I'm right, we're not going to get much help. My theory is that this is linked to Google being sued by Sonos, and downgrading its software functionality in response (https://www.theverge.com/2022/1/6/22871304/google-home-speaker-group-volume-control-changes-sonos-pa...). In the article Google warns that the downgrades might cause problems if there are 3rd party speakers in the Group, which seems like what we are experiencing.

Thanks for replying to my thread, and giving me the heads up. I bought these devices *specifically* because they were advertised as being cast compatible.  This is incredibly disappointing, and feels like bait and switch which has (and continues to be) my main complaint with google devices and services.

My issue certainly is not resolved, though it looks like the cause is now known.  The speakers in question are discontinued, so I don't expect that the manufacturer will cut a firmware update.

Hey there someoneelse,

Speaker groups should still work once all devices in the group have been updated to the latest software. If you have a speaker group containing non-Google brands of speakers, they need to be on 1.52.272222 or higher Cast firmware version. Those speakers may be unable to be used in a speaker group without the latest firmware version and should be removed from existing speaker groups.

I'm really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, and I highly encourage you to submit all frustrations via submitting feedback via Google Home. If you had any other questions, I'd be happy to address them.

Best regards,

Jeran
