Trying to use my older chromecast

Im not sure what gen it is but its number is chromecast3729.

I did the factory reset.

It worked casting my android screen, then it didn't.

It works from apps that have a cast button.

I think the way I got it to cast what was on my phone was to first cast from an app with the cast button then I could cast the screen without having to be in that app.

That doesn't seem to work anymore so now it looks like I can only cast from apps with the cast button

How can I find out which gen it is?

Hi travistee,

Thanks for reaching out. A few questions: what's the make and model of your mobile device? Are you getting any messages when casting your phone screen to the TV? What's the version of your Google Home app?

Try these steps:

  1. Reinstall the Google Home app.
  2. Make sure there's no pending OS update on your phone.
  3. Turn off the Power Saving Mode setting in your phone.
  4. Allow Google Cast to use your network information. For Android 12 users: go to Settings > Use network information > Continue.
  5. Turn on the Microphone permission in the Google Play Services app to successfully use the Cast screen or audio feature with Chromecast.
  6. Reboot your Chromecast and mobile device.
  7. Reset your Chromecast.

To know what type of Chromecast you have, please check this support website article.

Thanks,

Jennifer
