USing Ethernet cable with Chromecast with Google TV

I connect to the CCWGTV a HUB (VEMONT Hub USB C, 5 en 1 ) and it powers up

I connect an Ethernet cable and it does not work.  The same cable it was connected to a Windows laptop that was connecting just fine.

Do I need any extra configuration?

You verified the ethernet cable, when plugged in to other devices work.

You know that when you plug it into this hub, connected to CCwGTV it does not.

Seems like pretty good evidence it's not compatible to me.  As I explained when I do the same thing with my USB-C to Ethernet hub, it just works.  I didn't have to do anything.

Possible reason if this model has been recommended by others as working but is not may be because these inexpensive Chinese white label goods can sometimes change internally without notice - they only care about making these things as cheaply as possible.  New revisions can be released with changes to parts if they make a new batch and found a cheaper alternative.  Plug the hub into a PC and investigate what the network chipset is, find out if others that say it's working have the same hardware or not.  Internally these hubs are basically USB hubs with other devices attached to the USB bus, not all of the devices need to necessarily be recognized for others to be recognized.  You might have a card reader on it that doesn't work on one service, but works on another for example.

If you're using the power adapter that came with the CCwGTV, it doesn't supply enough power to run both the Chromecast and the Hub most of the time.  Find any other USB-C charger/power adapter you might have around that has a higher wattage rating and try using that instead.  I successfully use my CCwGTV with a USB-C hub that includes ethernet with a third party USB-C charger fine.

If that still doesn't work it may be that the hub you've bought just won't work with the CCwGTV because it uses an ethernet chipset that the CCwGTV doesn't have driver support for and you may need to try another.  Remember that the only "supported" ethernet configuration is using the ethernet adapter that Google sells, so it is a bit hit or miss using anything else.

As I said, it powers up. Meaning the CCWGTV is fully functional. I'm using my laptop USB-C power supply.

So it must be something else

There's no configuration, it would just work when plugged into Ethernet.  Your hub just probably uses an incompatible Ethernet chipset.

How can I tell if it's incompatible.

I can see the USB connected in the HUB. I'm using 'VEMONT Hub USB C, 5 en 1 ', that is the number 1 hub recommended in most reputable websites for CCWGTV

It has  chipset ASIX AX88179 for Gigabit Ethernet.

Is it supposed to work?

Hey there jj001,

I would check out this article called Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast: Quick Start Guide. In that article, it has steps on how to set Ethernet up and what to do if you can't cast. Here is the official Ethernet adapter that is designed to work with the Chromecast with Google TV. If the steps and troubleshooting from that article don't work, I'd recommend that you purchase the official adapter.

Best regards,

Jeran
