Unable to cast to ChromeCast2 from tablet

I hadn't used my ChromeCast 2 for a few days and then found I couldn't connect from my Lenovo E10 tablet (running Android 8.1.0). I've tried various things, eventually reinstalling the ChromeCast device. The reinstall completed and I can send commands to the device from the tablet (eg. I can change the clock from 24 hour to 12 hour mode). But when I try to cast anything I get a message saying "Can't see Living Room TV on this Wi-Fi network. Check that it's online and that your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network." Both of those are true.

I can cast from two laptops and two other tablets, it's only this one that won't work; so, there must be something wrong with its configuration. They are all on the same network. I've tried rebooting the tablet, the wi-fi hub and the ChromeCast, reinstalling the Home app and resetting the app preferences with no effect.

Any ideas?

I've sorted this out; embarrassingly it was my own fault, but I'll explain in case it helps someone else. I'd turned off the option to automatically set the date and time on the tablet and put the date back by one day so that I could play the previous day's Wordle. When I finished I forgot to re-enable the option, so the tablet date was a day earlier than the network and the Chromecast.
The Google Home app and BubbleUPnP wouldn't work with that, but the VLC player worked as it usually did.

When I re-enabled automatic date and time setting, everything went back to normal.

I hope this helps someone else.

Some more info, I can play video through VLC but it stops after about 25 mins (that was always a problem with VLC and is why I don't use it). However, that shows they're on the same network.

But the cast option in the Home app still doesn't work and neither does BubbleUPnP.

Hi NeilM1,

Thanks for reaching out and for sharing some detailed information on the steps that you've done — these are of great help.

Is this happening in all Chromecast-enabled apps? Please try to turn off/on the Wi-Fi on your Lenovo E10 tablet. Also, please try to factory reset your Chromecast.

Thanks,

Jennifer
