Update Future

ILIA132

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone knows if there is a plan to upgrade Google Chromecast and if there is a plan to add an auto frame rate (AFR)in this update? Also if it is known at all what news is planned in this update?

If there are Google developers here and they are reading our posts I would like to write a request to a number of users. Please add AFR and also please add in the interface the same flexible system as it is in Android TV. For example, how to format, add, delete, etc. channels on Android TV, etc.

There is no video content filmed and produced at 24 Hz.

There is, however, in television world, video content filmed and produced at different frameratres to comply with existing television standards, like PAL (25 FPS), NTSC (29.97 FPS) and NTSC FILM (23,976 FPS).

In the computer world, we have the games or CAD softwares, for example, which requires rendering at high refresh rates for smoother and high quality representation.

Do not confuse framerate with refresh rate, although, both applies to the current TV sets, which are able to handle both TV content and PC content.

Without entering to much into details, as long as your TV has a refresh rate of minimum 60 Hz, with support for PAL and NTSC broadcast formats, you have nothing to worry about. However, if you plan on playing games on that TV you just make shure that you select a supported resolution and a framerate of no more than 60 fps.

If the video content framerate is higher than the TV/monitor refresh rate then the device will not be able to display all the frames and thus is important especially in gaming.

What exactly do you want to do with auto framerate?

Virtually all current TV sets support both PAL and NTSC formats.

For example, if I watch content on TV which is 24 Hz, I want the device to provide me with image clarity at this frequency. If I look for example at 60 Hz I want the device to automatically adjust the frequency. This provides a better image.
It has Amazon devices and many more, which is definitely a big plus
