Volume keys on phone

Why is it not possible to adjust the sound volume with the side keys buttons (up and down) on the left side at the phone anymore? This was possible before even if the screen was locked and unlocked.

Also having this problem once again, it was fine 24 hours ago. Restarting phone and Chromecast has made no difference, having to go into the home app to do this is a completely rubbish experience

Hey there Mattiz,

I'm sorry to hear that your volume controls aren't working like they used to! I'd be happy to look into this, let me just ask you a few questions to better understand what's happening:

  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • When did the issue start happening?
  • Does this occur on one app, or all apps?
  • Does this occur when mirroring your Android screen?

In any case, I would make sure your Google Home app is up-to-date, and maybe clear out the cached app data as well.

Hi.

 
Home version 2.54.1.7. Maybe 6 months since starting. In every app side keys not working. Can not mirror to those 2 tv's (old) not main tv. Cleared out cache now, same problem.

And this problem is only using Chromecast.

Not OP but yes the problem still exists for me. It works in the Home app and only in the Home app when it is in focus.

 

Google Home Version: 2.53.15.3

When did it start? Day of my post, around 2 weeks ago

Occurs on any app that isn't the Google Home app

Haven't mirrored my android screen don't know how, but I was happy with the way things were working

Hey there,

 

I consulted a higher tier of support about this, and they weren't able to re-create the issue on their end. They suggested that you all give these steps a try to see if it resolves the issue, or if the problem persists:

  • Make sure that your Chromecast and Google Home app are up-to-date.
  • Make sure that your phone's software is up-to-date.
  • If the problem persists with everything updated, factory reset the Chromecast device.
  • If you have another phone available, test to see if the problem persists across devices.

Give that a try, and let me know what you experience, I look forward to your responses on this!

Hey there Mattiz,

 

If you've tried the troubleshooting steps, and the volume keys are still unresponsive outside the Google Home app, there may be a deeper issue. This has been a problem in the past, so hopefully our engineering team can look into this and resolve it again. If you have the time, would you be willing to submit feedback via the Google Home with logs enabled? That way, if there are errors being thrown by the Google Home app, our engineering team will have an easier time finding them.
