Where is the latest status on Chromecast audio?

I have a Chromecast audio only disk and before I go spend the time getting it installed, I'm wondering if they still actually work.

I'm only looking to use it as a single zone audio player with google home.

So where is the web page that has up to date current viability of this product?

Do I dare try and upgrade the firmware?
