Wifi

to set up the chrome sat your mobile device/tablet has to be on the same wifi as the chrome cast. However, I’m in college and the wifi network used to set up dorm TVs is not the same one used for mobile devices/laptops. I don’t know what to do.

Hey there,

I'm sorry about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to set up that Chromecast? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions:

  • You marked that you have a 3rd generation Chromecast, is that the case?
  • Do you have to sign in to the network from a web-page?
  • Do you have access to a mobile hotspot?

Now, if you have to sign in to the network from a web-page, that's a captive portal network. Chromecast devices do not work on that type of network. Now, while mobile hotspots are not a recommended type of network for Chromecast, you may be able to use it. However, it may not work, and it drains a good amount of data.

I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful, but if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran
