Will Chromecast with Google TV work if plugged into an HDMI port of a receiver?

If a Chromecast with Google TV is plugged into an HDMI input port of a receiver, will it pass the signal to the TV?  In my case it is a Yamaha TSR-5790 receiver.

The reason I want to do this rather than plug it directly into the TV is so that I can get to use 5.1 surround sound.

It should work fine, as long as your video signal goes to the TV from the AV receiver output.
