chromecast with google tv cec volume control won’t work

i’m having trouble with the chromecast cec settings to control my denon avr (current model, supports google assistant). power on works perfectly, however neither volume nor input will work. i’m not concerned about getting in-n-out working, but the volume is frustrating. i can set it to work via ir, but i’d really like to be able to control it through the app.

i’m sure it isn’t an issue with the av receiver as i have other devices that have no issues with cec.

does anyone have experience fixing this?

 thanks in advance!

Hi bri_,

Thanks for reaching out. I want to dig deeper into this.

A few questions:  Were you able to control the volume using your Chromecast Voice Remote? Can you see your Denon AVR under the remote and accessories section for volume setup? Where is your Chromecast plugged into, is it on the TV or AVR?  Can you tell me what app would you like to control the volume, is it the Google Home app or a different app?

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hey, thanks for your response! I am able to control it so long as I set up the remote to use IR, not CEC. The Chromecast is plugged into the AVR, and I'd like to use the Google Home app to control the volume.

Hi there,

Sorry for the late response. Could you try to plug in the Chromecast to your TV instead and try again? Also, please check the info below to see how you can configure it and control the volume:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Remotes and Accessories.
  3. Select Set up Remote Buttons.
  4. Select Volume Control.
  5. Choose from the available options:
    • Auto (CEC) - The volume button on the Chromecast remote allows the customer to control the volume. Surround sound works with this setting. This setting will not allow you to control the volume using their phone, voice commands, or compatible displays.
    • [TV Name] (IR*) - The volume button on the Chromecast remote allows the customer to control the volume of the TV. Surround sound works with this setting. This setting will not allow you to control the volume using their phone, voice commands, or compatible displays.
    • Chromecast Volume - Allows you to control the volume using the Chromecast remote, phone, voice commands, or compatible displays. This setting changes the volume you hear but not the volume set on the TV, receiver, or soundbar. It doesn’t work with surround sound, but it does work with stereo sound.

Thanks,

Jennifer
