i have been casting spectrum tv to c.c. ultra fine for years. suddenly it wont show a picture. i can cast from tcm and hbo apps ok; anything from spectrum tv app doesnt work. i did a reset and set up all over again. i dont get why this isnt working. can this thing pick and choose what it will show? i am disgusted as i have spent hours resetting, changing what tv it is on, casting to all others ok but this one wont show spectrum tv content (sports). what gives?

I'm experiencing the same issue. All other apps cast fine and I can watch spectrum on my phone but it will not cast to the TV.

Hey there everyone,

I'm sorry to hear y'all are running into issues with the Spectrum TV app! I'd be happy to help out where I can, since I know these issues can be frustrating. The first thing I would check is that both the Spectrum TV app and the Google Home app are up-to-date. Then, I would clear out the cached app data on both apps. If that doesn't work, it's a possibility that Spectrum may be experiencing an outage, and in that case, I would encourage you to reach out to Spectrum Support.

I look forward to your responses, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

I have spent what seems like two hours with spectrum, and they sent here to Google! No answers from anyone.

hi there! as a matter of fact, i uninstalled and reinstalled the app. i have no idea how to clear anything from cc other than a factory reset, which i did. still didnt work. i was able to cast spectrum to my other 2 cc's without issue, both from my phone and laptop/desktop. i still have a bum chromecast i guess. i had to buy a new one in order to follow the indians in the mlb playoffs. i hate being roped to just one tv/monitor...

thanks for the reply. if there is something i can do other than a factory reset on the dongle please tell me what and HOW....im not shy about tech, just not up to date.....🤔

Hi folks,

@Jeran, thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear if something’s not going your way. Doing the factory reset should revert your Chromecast device to its original state, making it easier to set back up. However, I need to set your expectations, our Chromecast still relies heavily on the apps that have been integrated and became a part of us. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we have overall control over all the apps. Since other apps are working except the Spectrum TV app, most probably the concern is with them already. As mentioned, there’s a possibility that Spectrum TV app was cut off from casting their channel due to business reasons.

While you’re all here, what kind of Chromecast do you have? Have you all done the factory reset? Click this link How to factory reset your Chromecast to know exactly how to.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Dan

I have the second generation chrome cast. The chrome cast has been reset to factory at least four times now. Twice by myself, once on phone call support from Spectrum and another by the Spectrum/Charter cable technician who came out to check everything on the cable tv end of things. He said he couldn’t do anything as far as the app was concerned. It also wouldn’t work on his Spectrum issued android phone. As everyone has said, all the other apps work fine. All but Spectrum TV streaming app. Bought seven Roku devices in the last few days and each of them work perfectly.

if spectrum chot se to cut off the ability to cast they only told one dongle out of 4 at my house. all of the others work fine. this is not even an acceptable answer to this issue. i think the dongles that fail are junk and were made poorly. we should be getting the choice to swap or trade in for new replacements. i dont have $30+ dollars to throw around. if i did, i would be watching broadcasts via the spectrum receiver and not casting.....

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience. I found a great article that would help a lot, click this link and follow the steps: Using Chromecast with the Spectrum TV App & https://goo.gle/3MOcZC8

Tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

im sorry, but was there an article to read? i saw 2 sentences there and links to tell the user the same casting info and set up that is supplied with chromecast items.

i still have 3 other cc's in place around the house and i continue to be able to cast ANYTHING, INCLUDING SPECTRUM (either phone app or website source) to these without issue. i firmly believe these dongles that do not cooperate are in fact poorly made or deficient in some way that causes them to fail. a lemon, if you please. i think we should be getting replacements for these junk dongles instead of working ourselves sick trying to diagnose the problem. let chromecasts IT work out the issue and in the meantime let us trade in for new and get on with our lives.

spent many hours trying to solve this same issue. Had the spectrum/charter tech out yesterday with no change. He couldn’t get it to work on his spectrum issued phone either. His best guess was that the spectrum app was cut off from casting their channel. Probably forcing everyone to buy a Roku stick. Some notice they were planning to do this would have been great.
I have several Roku stick which are working with no issues.

I'm having the same issue. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? It worked fine for atleadt a year then just won't cast or even find my devices at all.

I have news for you and everyone who's screen is going black with Chromecast... I called Spectrum today and was told that they don't use Chromecast, they use Roku or Apple TV...what BS, when I joined Spectrum in Jan. of 2021 they told me that they only used Chromecast or Apple TV...I do believe that it is all about who they happen to be negotiating with at the time. No one is going to tell you that that is the reason that your screen has gone black! I ened up buying a Chromecast device and put my Roku away...and NOW, I am putting away my Chromecast and bring back my Roku...Thank You very much Spectrum, I do believe that I will look for another provider.

i dont know about the term 'use' as far as spectrum is concerned. all i can say is 3 out of 4 of my chrome cast devices are allowing me to cast to them without issue. just one that went haywire. i am currently streaming the ALDS game via spectrum to a samsung tv. not a smart tv, just a tv. so i think spectrum was blowing smoke up your roku as far as that advice was concerned....they likely had no idea what you were talking about. either that or they are considering the apps available on the chromecast with google tv; i am still able to stream to that dongle as well. the spectrum app isnt on it, but that doesnt matter. it receives the cast signal just fine......

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the late reply.

I'm meaning to ask about the Spectrum TV with your Chromecast devices? Does it still give the same behavior? If yes, could you pull up this guide on how to redo the link and tell me how it goes. We really do need to confirm if its an isolated case with Spectrum TV app/Spectrum https://goo.gle/3EcBWnZ since all other apps are working.

Thanks,

Dan

It’s too late to do anymore testing for me. Went out and purchased seven Roku devices and threw away two Chromecast devices. Roku units has been working with no issues on several different TV brands that we have. Hoping it gets figured out for everyone. But, I’m no longer messing around with Chromecast.

Hey there Phill,

I'm really sorry to hear that the Chromecast devices were less than ideal for you. If the devices gave me as much trouble as they did you, I probably would have done the same. Regardless, if you have the time, we'd appreciate feedback regarding the devices, so they can be improved in the future.

Best regards,

Jeran
