"Ethernet adapter for CCWGTV" with 1st generation Chromecast

RogerT
Community Member

Hi,

Can I use  "Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast with Google TV" with 1st generation Chromecast?

1. replace the 1st generation Chromecast power adapter with  "Ethernet Adapter for CCWGTV"

2. connect the 1st generation Chromcast usb cable to the ""Ethernet Adapter for CCWGTV" .

3. run Ethernet cable to the router.

Will this configuration work for Ethernet connection?

Thanks,

Roger

Yes, you can do that, but, keep in mind that the ethernet adapter specifications state a 100 Mbps connection speed.

My suggestion is to look for a powered micro-usb ethernet adapter with gigabit LAN speed or to use an USB-C powered (65 W - 100 W) hub with gigabit Ethernet port.

As an example:

Cable Matters micro usb to ethernet

In the end, I would advise you to consider upgrading your device to Google Chromecast with Google TV to benefit more from its functionality, because many applications will drop support for earlier generation Chromecast devices.

Google Chromecast with Google TV is a better alternative because it uses the USB-C port which is more capable and offers you the possibility to expand storage and attach various accessories, including a high quality USB input DAC for high quality audio.

Thanks for the response.

But, I looked at the picture more carefully.  It seems that the "Ethernet adapter for CCWGTV" has a "built-in" USB cable with USB type C connector.   Therefore, the Step 2 in my original post maybe incorrect.   In order to connect to 1st generation Chromecast, which is micro usb,  I need to buy an "usb type c (female)  to micro usb (male) adapter", right?   Will this extra conversion work ?
