"Manage Services" bug: imbalanced results and other services hidden

jowii

I have never had good results when making selections in the "Manage Services" section. I have reported this several times over the past year (both in the old forum and via "send feedback" from the Chromecast with Google TV).

I "send feedback" when I can, but it's never reassuring with it's one-way communication and the issue has persisted for so long.

  • Issue 1: When I select just one or two services, I no longer see suggestions for the free apps I use, such as Tubi, Crackle, etc. These services are not options to select under "Manage Services". I actually watch them just as much and more than my paid services and I'd prefer to still see recommendations for them.

Possible solution: Add all apps to the Manage Services section. So if for example a user wants to see recommendations for Tubi, they can select Tubi.

  • Issue 2: Even if I select all of the paid services I use, the results are very imbalanced. For instance, if I select Disney+, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, etc. All of the browse results will be only Disney+ and Netflix, even if I watch the others more frequently. So I assume this isn't based on watch history and instead particular services are being given precedence?

Possible solution: Aside from fine tuning the algorithm, maybe allow the user rearrange the order of importance of the Manage Services list. This could work similarly to rearranging apps (long press and then move up/down in the list).

Thanks for listening! 🙂

Hey there jowii,

I am really sorry about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Thank you for submitting feedback on this issue! I know it can be a little discouraging when submitting feedback because, as you said, it is a one-way communication. Rest assured that Google does take all forms of submitted feedback seriously. To be safe, I'll go ahead and get this thread passed up to the appropriate team to make sure that they are aware of the issue. Just to be transparent, it may take some time for them to resolve the issue.

I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Thanks for responding and sorry I missed your comment last week. I appreciate it!

Hopefully I've made it clear enough to them what the issue is, in that I'd like to still receive recommendations for free services throughout the For You section, even when I have selected paid services under Manage Services. And I think the easiest solution for that would be including the free services as selections under Manage Services. Thanks!

Hey joiwii,

No problem at all! I think that's a fantastic idea, thank you for submitting feedback! I know Google is always looking for suggestions on how to improve their Google TV UI and clean up any bugs, so I know they'll appreciate the information you sent them. In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns we can address today?

Best regards,
Jeran
