reboot chromecast 2nd gen

My chromecast was working perfectly well until I turned it off for several months. Meanwhile I have changed my Bt router. I have tried to reconnect but it says cannot communicate with chromecast, and I notice that it is trying to connect to the old router which no longer exists.

I have tried to reboot using switch off and pressing on the orange light button but after it goes white it still tries to connect to the old router. I have tried resetting the router but that does not help either.

Any ideas please

Sounds like the factory reset isnt quite starting, possibly just rebooting, can you hold the button longer (15 seconds or more) just to ensure it does a proper factory reset?

I can try, but I think i have been holding it for at least that long.

Am I right in that the button to hold is the LED light, or am I missing something?

Thanks for your comment. I have tried your suggestion.

I have turned off the power for a few minutes, put it back on and held the orange led constantly.

On screen, there were four coloured moving dots, then a G symbol, then a scenic photo, then the screen which says cannot connect and a code number.

I let of the light and proceeded to set up, but the chromecast still tries to connect to the old router.

Any other suggestions , please/

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, Ashepherdson.

Geetee, I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing an issue with your Chromecast. Please reboot your router and manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how you can connect to the Chromecast SSID: Go to the phone settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.

Regards,

Jennifer

Thanks for that. I have already tried that and all the other ideas. They just do not work, so some original thinking needs to be done.

Basically this product is faulty and the manufacturer should offer a  free replacement to all affected, whether in warranty or not. Another problem here is that despite installing the latest home app, some of the screens that are described do not appear. For example the ''forget this network'' . It gets so far but never reaches the final screen.
