wanted Chromecast with Google TV won't output audio when connected to USB-C hub

I wanted to expand the storage for my Chromecast and happened to have a TOTU USB-C Hub that I connected to the device. It allowed me to plug the USB-C power and the ethernet into the hub (as well as a MicroSD card) and then into the Chromecast. I've heard a lot of success stories with this, but mine doesn't fully work. Whenever I am using this hub, there is NO audio from the Chromecast. As soon as I return to the normal power/ethernet combo, it works fine. This doesn't make any sense to me, except maybe if it's something with the power supply. Though this one can handle power fine since I also had used it for my work laptop previously with no problems (compatible wattage).

Is this a known problem? Is there any way to troubleshoot it? I am pretty sure it's going to end up being the device as the problem, but I'm hoping it's not.

The hub supports full video/audio, but I'm not using it for that. The Chromecast's HDMI is connected to the TV, then the USB-C port is connected to the Hub, where the hub is gathering power, ethernet, and a Micro SD card for storage.

It turns out that, even though I didn't have any audio devices connected to the Hub, it was stealing the audio output from the HDMI of the Chromecast. I ended up having to go into the developer options and enabling "Disable USB Audio Routing" to prevent this from happening.

@TheColdOne I think your assessment is correct, it's the hub device. The device may have HDMI ports on it, but does that device have the ability to audio? Quick glance seems to suggest it's for mirroring video -- so the HDMI ports do not seem to carry sound just video signal is my guess. CCwGTV is designed to be used by directly connecting it to the television's HDMI port and plugged into a wall using all the cables that come with the device.

Glad you figured it out with a little digging. Was that in the manual for the device?

No, I actually posted it in Reddit (was down when I replied so I couldn't link it). At first a couple people had the same thought I did (power supply), but then a couple other guys figured it was audio since the device I was using had multiple audio-out ports.

Ah, got it, so couple that with the fact you didn't have audio devices connected to the hub, so there was no place to channel sound out so it terminated with the hub. So you basically bypassed that by shutting the audio handling off for the hub itself. Gotcha makes sense. Now don't forget to turn that back on if you hook an audio device up, otherwise, you'll be back to no sound! 😂
