Smart plugs not recognised by Google Home

MrBoots

I have a couple of smart plugs made by Arlec which are supposed to work with Google Home.  I have set them up on the Grid Connect app and they work fine and show on my router device list.  However, I cannot add them to GH for voice control.  The link routine goes according to the instructions and after I log in it comes back 'Authorise'  but then I get a message "cannot reach grid connect".   Interestingly, the GH page shows a quick link to Grid Connect but the device is not shown.   GH works fine with my Chromecast.

This appears to suggest a lack of connection between GH and the router.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey there MrBoots,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to get those devices added to Google Home? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?

  • Is your Google Home up-to-date?

  • Have you already checked out Grid Connect's Home Automation FAQ?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran
Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions. Firstly, I have not been able to link the two Smart plugs since purchasing them about 1 month ago. I have uninstalled Google Home several times and reinstalled it and cleared caches, ensured that all permissions are granted etc both in the Grid Connect app and GH. I have also checked FAQs and been in contact with Grid Connect help for possible solutions. So I have not been able to resolve it thus far.
The curious thing is when I go through the linking routine it all appears to go OK until it gets to the page with "Authorise", which is the last step, then it just says "cannot reach Grid Connect". This makes me wonder if Google Home may not be communicating with the app or the wireless modem may be blocking it somehow, but there seems to be no settings I can change that may be doing that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Mr Boots (Geoff)
