The S word: Smartthings

I’d had my entire home set up with a Smartthings mesh network and all the associated Smartthings plugs and third-party switches, which I finished about a year before Samsung announced they were getting out of the hardware business. Suddenly last week the Wi-Fi hubs stopped working (stuck on a “firmware update” for 48 hours, and one of the hubs died completely 😤). I’ve just replaced it with Google Wi-Fi.

Silly me, I have about 37 branded Smartthings plugs that now seem to be useless to me. I’ve already replaced key ones with GE’s Cync plugs. But does anyone know if I can somehow make the Smartthings plugs work with Home, even if I have to press one of the bricked (or a replacement) Wi-Fi hubs into service?

Still figuring all of this out (again). Thanks all.

Almost all Smartthings compatible devices connect to a Smartthings hub not to a wi-fi router. Generally the devices use either Zigbee or Z wave protocols. So, if you want your Smartthings devices to work again, you will need to have a SmartThings hub. The hub connects to Wi-Fi. Once you have a SmartThings hub, with your devices connected, you can then connect SmartThings to Google Home and control those devices via Google Assistant, Google Home App, or the SmartThings app.
