24/7 on nest cam with solar panel?

RodriRobl

I have two nest cam battery, each connected to a solar panel. I’m paying for the nest aware plus but I can’t get the 24/7 recording. Does it have to be directly plugged into an outlet? Before going this rout i did speak to someone from support and they confirmed it would work but 2 months in now and nothing. Any answers/suggestions are appreciated

@RodriRobl

We have the battery camera, but ours is plugged in with the optional power cable.

How the battery camera is SUPPOSED to function when connected to a solar panel seems unclear. On the page below it says "If you’ve connected your Nest Cam (battery) to the Wasserstein Solar Panel, the panel doesn’t directly power the camera. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the panel, and the camera runs off the battery charge."

That IMPLIES that you cannot record 24/7, based on this statement on the page below: "The Nest Cam (battery) must be connected to a power source to have 24/7 video history. If your camera is battery powered, it will only have event video history, even if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription."  But Google Nest does not state anywhere what should happen when the battery camera is connected to a solar panel.

If that isn't confusing enough, several other customers in this forum have reported that, while they cannot RECORD 24/7, their battery power connected to a solar panel is "Live" 24/7 and is therefore running down the battery. They've asked for clarification from Google Nest, but so far have not received such clarification.

Thank you. Never really understood it and when I called customer support they just told me it would work so never thought twice about it.
