Sorry it made me choose a label and there was no option for shades so I just chose "speakers and displays". I'm wondering why my Lutron shades do not allow any functionality within Google Home Automations. They otherwise work well with Google Home and I can use Home to open and close the blinds just fine, but when I try to add the blinds to an automation, the "Add Action" button is greyed out and there are no options for opening or closing them (see screenshot attached). I'm able to add many other devices, lamps/lights etc to this automation that I call "Bedtime" so when I say "Hey Google, Bedtime" it fires off all the devices that I can control in the automation. But the shades are not controllable in the automation section of the Home app. I asked Lutron if this a Lutron limitation or a Google limitation and they blamed it on Google. I find it odd that I can use Google and Google home to control the shades just fine outside of an automation, but not as part of one. Any ideas out there?

Do you have this action in personal or household automations?
Usually you just input the same words as you would when speaking to a smart speaker.

Are you using the Early Access version of the Google Home app?
You can still use the old automation version in Assistant Settings > Routines.
Otherwise try Reconnecting the Lutron app to Google Home

I'm not using Early Access and the screenshot I attached is what I see when I go to exactly where you suggested. All other devices that I add to the routine allow actions except for the shades. A popular YouTuber "Tech with Brett" who posts videos on smart home devices also recently said he has noticed this limitation with Lutron shades in routines but did not know the reason why. I can try reconnecting Lutron to Home

An alternative is you might be able to add a custom action.

How does one go about doing that?

That worked! Thanks so much, I didn't even realize that option was down there.

You're welcome 👍
You can input multiple of these actions.
This is one of my recent and favourite routines for the Nest Hub to wake up to the song you want without Spotify Premium...
