Cannot change the name of wired device

I have a android TV on wires ethernet. When I try and change the name of the device using the Google home app on my phone it says "Connect to the same WiFi network to edit"

My phone is on the same IP subnet as the phone.

So, how do you change the name of a device that is not connected via WiFi, but rather over Ethernet ?

Hey there tescophil,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that naming issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out where I can. Currently, I don't think Google Home recognizes certain devices over Ethernet. You could try changing the Android TV's name over a web browser to see if it updates in Google Home. Here is how to do that:

To connect to an Android TV using a web browser, you will need to use the IP address of your Android TV. You can find the IP address of your Android TV by going to Settings > Network > Ethernet > IP address. Once you have the IP address of your Android TV, open a web browser and enter the IP address into the address bar. You should then be able to access the user interface of your Android TV.

You can change the name of an Android TV over Ethernet by following these steps:

  1. Connect to your Android TV using a web browser.
  2. Go to Settings > About > Device name.
  3. Enter the new name for your Android TV.
  4. Click Save.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Browsing to the TV's IP it redirects to this address http://192.168.10.241:10000/contentshare/WebApp/index.html

And I get a "The device refused to Connect" error in chrome, same if I try HTTPS

Hey tescophil,

That's pretty strange that you're not able to connect to the TV via Google Home or Google Chrome. Are you able to temporarily connect to your Wi-Fi network to see if you encounter the same issues with Google Home?

Best regards,

Jeran

Hello tescophil,

In this case, it may be easier to speak with Chromecast Support regarding this issue. If you don't mind, would you be able to fill out this form to have Chromecast Support reach out to you via email? Just let me know when you fill it out.

Best regards,

Jeran
