I have a power outage and plugged in my heater to a generator. The heater will not work.

Just to be on the same page, could you please confirm whether you have a conventional or heat pump system? Also provide the following information:
On your thermostat, go to Settings > Technical info > Power, take a picture of the information displayed and send it to us. A picture of your wiring configuration would be really helpful.
