Gemini wont do routines

Google Assistant creates and runs routines with no issues at all. I get up in the morning, have my Google Assistant turn on my lights and start playing morning music.  It works! Flawlessly.  I switched over to Gemini for my Google Assistant + it only turns the lights on and doesn't turn on the music

Did you opt-in to Gemini for Google Home speakers after receiving a notification (US & Canada) or just Early Access in the Google Home app.

I don't have Gemini in Home yet. Just Early Access.

Do you put the music action last?

You could have the lights turn on at a specific time and then they could trigger the music to play.

Try using a custom action to play the music.

im not opted into anything.   gemini will play music if i ask it to.  just wont in my morning routine.  if i change back to google assistant, the routine works fine.  if i tell gemini to play music in a seperate command, he will as well.  just not through the routine

The Google smart home is currently very confusing with a mish mash of technologies with Google Assistant and Gemini on phone, Gemini Early Access in Google Home, Gemini on Home speakers (US & Canada) and Google Assistant on smart speakers (rest of the world)

It looks like you have Gemini on your phone as if you had Gemini on you Home speakers then from what I've read it is impossible to switch back and forth without taking drastic and irreparable damage.

I don't have that option in Home Settings to switch so I've got Gemini in my Google Home app with "Ask Home" located at the top of the page and 3 icons Home, Activity and Automations at the bottom, but I'm still using Google Assistant (as far as I know) as my hands-free assistant on my phone.

IT'S ALL VERY CONFUSING.

But my recommendation is: if it ain't broken, don't change it and keep it on Google Assistant until it becomes compulsory to change to Gemini.

Or see my previous comment for a workaround solution.

I had a Merros garage opener working fine but opting into Gemini as home assistant on Galaxy phone, cannot control garage door with voice.  Read this is a documented issue. Switched back to Assistant (it's selected,  Hey Google switched on, and I've rerecored voice Match). Still Galaxy phone doesn't respond to my voice.

Hi @dgrobe2112,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear about the experience you've had after switching from Google Assistant to Gemini, especially since your routines aren't running as they did before. I understand how concerning this situation must be. It sounds like your routines, specifically the music commands, stopped working correctly right after you made the switch to Gemini. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared, specifically regarding the music not playing. No worries, I’d be more than glad to help you with this.

To get things moving in the right direction, I suggest recreating the routine specifically with Gemini active. Since some media actions can behave differently after a switch, refreshing the connection by building a new routine can often resolve these types of issues. You can test this by creating a simple new routine that performs two actions. If the new routine works correctly, you should be able to delete the old one and replace it with a new one that is compatible with Gemini. You can check out the following article for detailed instructions on how to create and manage Routines in Google Home.

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, thanks for jumping in.

Please let me know how it goes after trying it.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Thanks for offering help but I wasn’t clear because you’ve misunderstood the issue completely. Gemini is reported not to work as a voice command with Merros garage openers. I therefore wanted to go back to Assistant that did respond to voice commands as I approached home. I’ve followed guidance to switch to Assistant and re recorded voice match but can’t get my Galaxy phone to respond to my voice after selecting Assistant rather than Gemini. My phone now lack a voice assistant and the garage door opening has to be switched by tapping in the Google Home app or Merros app. Any further ideas?
