Globalised families

alexanderchalki
Community Member

I live in Greece but recently married a flight attendant that is based in America. Google home refuses to let us be in the same family group. Her work means that she is more than half the month abroad. She can't change her settings to look as if she lives in Greece because she doesn't. She spends about 10 days a month at home with us.  It seems a bit silly in this globalized world to force us to choose one country. But if she declares grease as her base all the applications she needs for her work won't work.

Hi there,
As this is a community forum supported by other users and community specialist's the best way of getting your thoughts, feedback or feature requests to the people that can make changes is by submitting feedback as detailed within the link below.

Feedback:

Cathal

Thanks I did that but I have never received any feedback from submitting a feedback form . I will try again

Yes feedback is sent directly to the Google Nest team and they can not reply to all posts but everything is read and recorded.

If you would like to speak with a Google Nest representative then use the link below.

Hey there,

Cathal_S Thanks for the assistance.

alexanderchalki Additional information about Family Groups. You can associate Family groups with a home structure in the Google Home app to create a Family Home. This way enables the customer to use the family features that interact with their speakers and displays to only trigger in a specified household with their mobile device.

Set the primary home structure

Family managers with 2 or more home structures can change the primary home structure via https://bit.ly/3lL4zyE.
Note: Only the family managers (not the home structure managers) can set the primary home structures.

  1. On a mobile device or computer, open a browser, and go to https://bit.ly/3lL4zyE.
  2. Select Nest Family home.
  3. Choose a home structure to set as the primary home structure.

You can also share a home and devices in the Google Home app. Check this guide for more information.

Thanks,

Alex

Yes, of course, that is where I started from.  But it won't let me add my wife because she works abroad a lot of the time and needs to keep her base (for apps, etc, in the US).

Hi alexanderchalki,

We understand. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. Your wife can still use the basic feature, basic command and basic functionality whenever she's at home.

Thanks,

Alex

Best,

Thanks, I got on chat support and spoke at length with google staff and it is NOT something that can be fixed.  Nor is there a plan to ever fix it.  Just workarounds.
