Google doorbell (battery) pairs with my Alexa devices but cannot get it to chime

Hi there. New to the forum. After kitting my house out with a number of Alexa devices I very recently bought a Google doorbell after hearing great things. After installation I downloaded the nest home skill and can get picture when I ask Alexa to show it. Try as I might though, I cannot for the life of me get the alexas to chime or notify me when someone uses the doorbell, either the menu options I’m told to use aren’t visible in my app or I simply cannot find an answer. Does anybody know how to get this to work? Cheers 😉

Google Nest claims that this is supposed to work:

However, there are also two threads from customers in this forum saying they can't get "Visitor announcements" from the new battery doorbell to work on their Nest Hubs or Nest Minis:

Thanks for that. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’ll turn up in a future update

Hey Tattoobridson,

Appreciate the help, MplsCustomer. Check out this link on how to control Nest products with Amazon Alexa. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Archie

Hey Archie , thanks for that. From what I can tell, the main problem is that it’s not wired into a power source. All the options that I’ve been pointed at are greyed out unless the unit is plugged in to charge. Bit annoying really as makes it a choice between being battery operated and avoiding installation hassles or actually being able to get motion anything other than your phone. I’ve provisionally got around it in the age old way, thrown money at it and bought a couple of nest minis to use specifically and exclusively as doorbell chimes,is deeply upsettg to my ocd which is still desperate to make it work with my Alexa devices which were already scattered throughout the house. Hopefully will be addressed in a future software update. Thanks for the help
