Google home not turning on or off all lights in a group. Please help

K4master

A little over a week ago my Google home started not turning off or on all the lights in a set group. For example, I have six lights in my living room group and before when I said " Hey Google turn on/off the living room lights" it would turn them all either on or off and say "ok turning on/off 6 lights". Now though when I tell to turn the lights on or off it might turn one on or two and then give me a message saying " truning on living room lights" then the 2 turn on and it will say "4 lights not available". If I repeat the command to turn on the lights over and over again eventually every light will turn on but it'll keep giving me the air every time it might turn one on and then tell me 500 available or turn the same two on that were on before and tell me four aren't or etc. It does the same thing. When turning off the lights it won't turn them all off. It might turn off one or two and then tell me the rest aren't available and if I keep saying it it might turn off another one and then tell me that three more are available. I've tried on linking the lights from my Google home and relinking them. I've tried unplugging and plugging the Google homes back in. I've tried changing the rooms, making new rooms. The lights are lifx lights and they all work fine in the LIFX app in the Google home app though they work fine when I use them individually to turn on and off but I just try and turn the room on or the room off. I'll have the same issues where the app will think they're all turned on, but they won't be or it will think they're all turned off but they won't be. I have no idea what to do anymore. It's really annoying the same one else at this issue and if so, does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks in advance for the help.

I am having a very similar issue but with my Wiz smart bulbs. It fails when I ask a group of lights to turn on or off with only a few bulbs and it varies how many or which bulb will work. Sometimes it’s perfect but more than not lately it’s been messed up.

when I go into the Google home app I’ll try and  turn them on individually(the ones in the group that didn’t turn on) and it gives me an error as well. I’ve done a sync to Google in the wiz app and sync devices in Google home but get the same experience right after.
From my wiz app it works every time. I used to have my wiz bulbs setup via SmartThings and have smart things linked to Google home but recently changed it to integrate directly between Google and wiz, had the issue with both setups.

I'm sorry to hear it is happening to you to. Glad I'm not the only one though. It is the same for me. The lights will give me errors in the home app and will sometimes work other times won't. They work fine in the LifX app though. I wonder if this is some widespread issue with Google home that got messed up during an update or something like that.

Im not sure either. Have you tried to do the "hey google sync devices" command yet? also there is a way for me to sync from my wiz app. i've tried both but no luck.

I will say that sometimes this gets better over time but it gets way worse if i lose internet for any reason.

Yeah. It didn't help. I also tried unlinking everything from home and relinking and deleting the rooms and making new ones but nothing helped. It seems that the more lights in a room the more is messes up. For example my bedroom only has one light and works everytime, the kitchen has 2 lights and works maybe half the time and the living room has 4 lights and almost never works. I honestly don't know what to do I have tried everything I can think of.

Hey folks,

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you, let me help you out.

When did it start happening? What's the make and model of the smart light do you have? Also, is it happening to all your lights?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Try rebooting your devices and router to refresh the connection.
  2. If you haven't, try unlinking your smart lights account, reinstalling your Google Home and smart lights app. Then, relink them back in the Google Home app.
  3. Use the command " OK Google, sync my devices".
  4. If possible, reset your Google Home speaker.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Alex

I have LIFX bulbs. I'm not sure the model numbers for them but I have all different kinds ranging from the color LED bulbs to just the white bulbs to the LED strips and in the past I've never had any issues with Google being able to activate them and I've had them in this house for over a year until I start having this issue. I've tried everything you suggested except for factory resetting which I just tried and I still have the issue. The only room I don't have an issue with is the bedroom and there's only one light in the bedroom but even in the kitchen which has two lights, it only turns on one and tells me an error for the other 90% of the time. The living room there are four lights and it'll turn on anywhere from 1:00 to 3 different each time. Almost every once in a while it'll turn on all four. If I tell it to turn on the lights over and over again eventually it'll get them all on.

Hey K4master,

Thanks for the update.

We appreciate you doing all those steps. I know these steps may be out of your way but could you try removing your lights on the native app and add it again after reinstalling your LIFX app? Let us know if that steps help.

Best,

Alex

I haven't had the time to try the reset of everything this week but I plan to do it this weekend. What should I do if it doesn't work and this thread is locked?

I did notice that wiz app worked during the times Google home couldn’t see the bulb. Google support told me it’s probably that the app was using Bluetooth, which it was. So I looked and it does seem the bulbs disconnected. I’ve reset all of them for 5 min and so far it’s been good.

I plan on wiping out everything and basically starting from fresh with the LifX app this weekend. The lights all work fine in the LifX app though and it has no issues loosing them so I'm not hopeful but it's the only thing I haven't tried so fingers crossed.

It unfortunately wasn't going. I tried everything and I couldn't get it to work so I bought and Alexa during Prime day and that works perfectly. It's unfortunate because up until this incident I was very happy with Google home. This whole thing kind of soured me on it though.
