In Google Home speaker groups are no longer an option for default speaker

I noticed this morning that when I asked to play some music, the sound came only from a local pair of nest home speakers. when I went to another room and attempted to play some music, it did the same on a Google Nest access point. In the home app the default speaker options have reset for my entire home to the speaker that there are playing on. In hopes of avoiding with the challenges from some legal questions regarding Google's rights to the tech what should be open source in my opinion, I've had only one speaker group for I'd say the past 6 months. I call mine "House Sound".   I've been using this as my walk around me home flawlessly streaming music, from YouTube music for a few years. My speaker group is still there but when I go to the individual speakers, it is no longer an option to set as default. I have paired to Nest home speakers, and that is the only configuration change that I'm aware of. I believe that this might be a challenge for others, I'm going to unpair them and see if that comes back. there's always a possibility that something was missed.

Hi thechrissimon,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your speaker group issue. This feature is still supported. Let us know if unpairing them will make a difference. You can also check out the steps below to select a playback device:

  1. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your speaker, display, Chromecast, or Pixel Tablet.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap Favorites .
  4. Tap the current media session for:
    • Playback controls
    • Volume control
    • Playback device selection

Regards,

Juni
