I have installed a Google Nest Doorbell, battery powered
it rings itself fine and activates notifications on my phone.
however I want indoor chime to work where it plays a sound and notifies me on my devices within the house. I can’t get it to do so despite changing many settings.
The ‘Ring indoor chime’ setting appears greyed out.
thank you for the help!

It seems that Google Nest automatically grays out and disables the "Indoor chime" option whenever the battery doorbell is not wired to an indoor wired doorbell chime and transformer.
However, since you have "Visitor announcements" turned on, you SHOULD get visitor announcements on all of the Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and Nest speakers in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your battery doorbell unless your speakers are set to "Do not disturb". However, I've seen several posts from other customers reporting that this is not working for the battery doorbell, or it's only working occasionally, or it's only working when the doorbell is pressed a second or third time.

You could try contacting Google Nest Support to see if they have any update on this problem. (It works fine with our older Google Nest Hello Doorbells.)

I installed the wired Nest Doorbell 2nd Generation. It is powered up with no issues and connected to Wifi, I receive notifications on my phone and visit announcement works on my Nest Mini Speaker. I have tested the voltage on the transformer and its at 21.5 volts. The indoor chime works with manual/original doorbell with no issues but when the chime is set up with provided capacitor it will not ring with either the nest or original doorbell. I have confirmed all wiring is correct on the transformer, doorbell and chime. I have made and modified the settings in the Home app to various options and combinations with no success. Meaning on/off with "Ring indoor Chime" option and "Have an Electronic Chime" Yes/No and the various "length of ring" times. Please assist.

I'm just another Google Nest customer who has noticed several other customers have posted in this forum about trouble with the "chime puck" for the 2nd Generation Google Nest Doorbell, and have found, contrary to Google Nest's guidance, that their indoor chime rings WITHOUT the "chime puck" installed and does NOT ring WITH the "chime puck" installed.

Thank you so much, I was going crazy! This suggestion worked. I totally removed the puck and now everything works. Do you know of any negatives for not having the puck installed?

I don't know. On this thread below, a Google Nest Community Specialist ( @janthadeus ) said: "If your chime works fine without the chime connector, you can have it that way."

Big Thank You again. it's working so I am happy. I will check out the thread. BTW, when I contacted google, we went through their extensive checklist for troubleshooting.... of course nothing work. Their last suggestion was to buy a new chime puck online. They would not offer me a replacement. The puck online is $80. Sort of outrageous they would suggest that I would have to pony up more money to get this to work.
