Out of nowhere my best decides it doesn’t have the capabilities to dim the lights when it’s been perfectly fine for over 6mos! I’ve tried everything in the app suggested except a system reset bc I fear I’ll lose all my stuff!

That certainly hasn't been easy for you — let's see what's going on.
A few questions: were there any recent changes or updates on your network? Are you getting any message when you command your Nest device to dim your lights? To confirm, did you unlink and relink your lights from the Google Home app?
Could you try rebooting your speaker and lights and router for a minute or two to refresh the connection? Once done, try asking your Nest device "sync my devices" to see if that helps.
