[Matter] All TP-Link P125M smart plugs are offline and cannot be controlled or monitored

Without any change or action on my part, Google Home now shows all of my smart plugs as offline and cannot control them from the app or from any of my hubs.

  • All smart plugs are TP-LINK P125M connected by Matter, so there is no third-party cloud service involved.
  • Google Home app shows them as "offline" and cannot control.
  • When trying to control via nest hub, it warns me that it couldn't control all devices.
  • My Unifi network's wifi device page shows that the plugs are all are connected to the network with "excellent" signal, have valid IP addresses.
  • Confirmed that I can ping each of the plugs from my laptop without significant packet loss and consistent latency less than ~5ms.
  • Tried unplugging the plugs to remove power, then plugged them back in after 10 seconds. Still doesn't work.

From what I can tell, there is a bug in Google Home that has caused it to lose contact with all of the smart plugs at the same time.

Interesting, I have one that suddenly stopped being available in Matter.  It was initially setup with Google and shared to HomeAssistant.  The rest of my P125Ms were initially setup with HomeAssistant and are having no problems.  Only the one setup through Google has a problem.

Having the same issue with matter (over wifi) connected Tp-Link/Kasa devices. If I factory reset and then pair again it will work for a few days before going "offline" again in Google home.

I’ve got this exact issue. Did you ever sort it?

2 Tapo matter plugs p125m are shown as offline all the time, even after reconnect after reset. Added it 4-5 times already. Work fine if added with Tapo app.

I can confirm this is still happening. I'm using a Google Home Mini as my Matter hub. The three P125M devices on my network were all setup via Matter over WiFi in Google Home. After a few days or so, they will one by one starting showing up offline. The only troubleshooting I've done that rectifies this is to remove the device, factory reset it, and readd it. Then in a few days it will go offline again.

I am having the exact same issue.  I confirmed that they are connected to my network and have good signal and I can ping them.

Same problem here. I have three Meross Matter WiFi smart plugs and two from Tapo, also Matter. They all keep randomly going "offline" in Google Home even though I can ping them all and I can control them from the vendor app. They are all in the same room so it's not a WiFi coverage issue. It looks like the Nest Hub Max just isn't very good at maintaining connection to them. Very disappointed.

I have 7 tapo ts15 all showing offline. Has anyone found a solution?

Unfortunately, I haven't found a permanent solution. I use the Tapo app when they start to go offline. When enough go offline that it's a hassle, I delete the troublemakers from  the Tapo app, then from Google Home. This puts them in a ready to connect state and you can just readd them to Google Home.  This will require you to put them back into any automations they were in previously. While this isn't a solution, it's the shortest workaround I've found in terms of time.

Zeph, sounds like just delete problem switches and add them again from scratch. Do you think that will work without the tapo app? I don't have the tapo app and don't want to add it if I don't need to.

It should work without the Tapo app. Worst case they just won't go into a ready to connect state and you just reset them.

For me it worked to install the Meross apps for my meross plugs added them and update them, now it works fine since about one week

Same issue here. Just bought 2 Meross Smart Plugs. After setting them up in Google Home they will stay up and work for about 5 minutes. Then they go "offline" I have factory reset them more than 6 times... Same thing. They work for a while and then go offline.

Has anyone found a solution?

Just to let everyone know that I added the switches to a routine. As soon as they turned on using the routine, then they were fixed and work fine now.
