Hello,
I am looking to get some help with my "I'm home" setting. I would like to have my liked playlist from Spotify play on all of my speakers in the house (Everywhere Group) at the same volume. Here are some of the issues that I have been having.
1. Does not always play the playlist. It will look for songs called home by everywhere. Sometimes.
2. If it does play the playlist it always plays the same songs. I have hundreds in my liked playlist but it doesnt matter.
3. Music will only play on the device that heard the command.
4. Volume is different everywhere.
I am using 4 google mini gen 1 and a 1st gen google nest hub. Also a Pixel 7 pro.
HELP PLEASE

Hi Johng7769,
Thanks for reaching out. That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s check out what’s going on. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made before it started? What music provider are you using? Also, what steps have you taken so far?
Let’s try to refresh your devices and observe if it makes a difference. First, reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to all your Google Nest Minis. Check out the helpful article below about playing music on your Google Nest Mini.

we have a similar issue - and if we reboot everything (nest, 2 speakers, display, 4 minis) works for a while and then all but the speaker whoch responded to the command stop playing music. Google sees them, sees the group, but simply responds "not playing.:

Hi RichinNH,
Thanks for posting and for trying that troubleshooting. Try to create a new speaker group and observe if it makes a difference.
Keep me posted.

The issue here is that the routine setting don’t allow for selecting speaker groups as audio sources. If Google would just add speaker groups to the “Play Routine on” settings of the routine these issues would go away. You should also be able to override audio only playing from the device you speak to in the options. Giving a command to start a routine that uses a speaker group shouldn’t only come out of the speaker you requested the routine to start from.
This thread should be moved to feature requests with a high priority based on all of the various unresolved threads here. This should be a very easy fix in the software.

Still no fix for this issue?

Regarding this point:
2. If it does play the playlist it always plays the same songs. I have hundreds in my liked playlist but it doesnt matter.
I found it plays your Spotify playlist in the same order every time too. You can change this by using a custom action in your routine and giving it the command "Shuffle my playlist called <insert name of your playlist>".
As for playing it on a speaker group, I haven't had much luck with that either I'm afraid. I tried putting a short delay in the routine to give time for the music to start playing and then added another custom action like "play this on my kitchen speakers". It used to work but seemed to break around the time they added the new media control actions (e.g. play radio). Currently, this is not working for me.

No. There is no resolution and we have no visibility to what Google plans on fixing or a timeline for new “features”.

I was able to solve this by going into each google home mini I have in device settings and changing the default speaker to Home Group. Hope this helps others.

This worked, thank you!
I can see it being a problem if you have more devices and different groups set up. I only have 1 and this worked perfectly. I was going nuts with different set ups!
