Nest wired camera not available with routines

So if my understanding is correct, you can add your camera to the Nest app (if it’s and older camera) and that way you can turn on the camera at a certain time. **Such as 8pm indoor camera turns on automatically, home or not** But seeing as I have a newer camera I cannot do this on the nest app, it won’t let me add it to nest.

So then Routines roles out on the google Home app, where I was able to add my camera. And I can automatically start my vacuum at any time but I can’t automatically turn on the camera?! My main purpose for the camera is to record if someone breaks into the house. It seems silly to have to manually go into the app to turn on the camera every single day, especially considering my camera will turn on automatically when I leave the house. And for completeness sake, my camera is added to the home in a room and my home has address for the time starter.

Can you please give us a time frame when cameras will become an action? On the automation post google put out it said cameras were to be available to do this in routines.

Hi Alexmcgraw,

I'm sorry for the delay. The 1st gen Nest cameras and doorbell use the Home/Away Assist feature in the Nest app to automatically set your camera on or off whether you're home and away and vice versa. Also, you can schedule your Nest camera to turn on and off at specific times regardless of whether someone’s home or not. Take a look at this article to learn more about camera scheduling.

While, 2nd gen Nest cameras use Home/Away Routines in the Google Home app. It uses presence sensing to automatically adjust your home devices when someone comes home and when everyone’s away. Furthermore, Nest cameras that you set up in the Nest app can be set up with either Home & Away Routines in the Home app, which requires you to use a Google Account with your Nest devices and services, or Home/Away Assist in the Nest app.

I hope that answers your questions.

Thanks,

JT
